Did you know that…

After the “Popeye” comic strip was launched in 1931, spinach consumption went up by 33% in the United States.

Elephants communicate in sound waves below the frequency that humans can hear.

The bands on hats traces back to the custom when knights wore their lady-loves scarves around their helmets.

To ensure continuity of government, Prince Charles and Prince William never travel on the same airplane as a precaution.

During World War II sugar was in in short supply making it difficult for theatres to obtain candy.  As a result, they turned to popcorn which is not the best-selling snack at movie theatres.

In real estate, signing with a real estate agent as a buyers’ agent is the only way a buyer has true representation.  Until that contract is signed, the agent is most likely working for the seller, even if they are not the listing agent.  I have said this many, many times, if you are in the market to buy a home, always, always, always sign a contract with an agent so you have representation.

Did you know that . . .

The term “blue chip” as in stocks, comes from the blue chips in casinos which have a high value?

Did you know that  . . 

The most active muscle in a human being is the muscle controlling eye movement?

It is estimated that our sun has about 5 billion years of fuel left? (plan ahead!)

It is possible for the human nose to detect and identify 50,000 scents?

The most common street name in the United States is ‘Second Street’?  The reason First Street isn’t first is than many cities have either First or Main Street.

Bees and dogs can smell fear?

Albert Einstein never learned how to drive a car?

The name of the Russian space station, Mir, means “peace”?

Sharks apparently are the only animals that never get sick?  As far as science can tell, they are immune to every known disease, including cancer.

In real estate, a home purchased for $250,000 at 5% percent interest, would be approximately the same monthly payment for (principal and interest) as a home slightly more than $280,000 at 4% interest.  This is why I strongly encourage anyone – especially first time home buyers – to move quickly to buy a home now before interest rates climb up.

Did you know that  . . 

The term “fan”, as in sports fan, is an abbreviation of the word fanatic?  Various media use to refer to football enthusiast as “football fanatics” which later became football fan.

Spiral staircases in medieval castles are all running clockwise?  This is because all knights used to be right-handed.  When an intruding army would climb the stairs they would not be able to use their right hand, which was holding the sword.  Left-handed men could not become knights because they were assumed to be descendants of the devil!

When testing a new pen, 97% of people will write their own name?

The first US Marines wore high leather collars to protect their necks from sabers, hence the name “leathernecks?”
